How to Troubleshoot Common Issues with Commercial Pressure Washers
Whatever your business, machines are meant to save time and help increase profitability. To ensure this is the case, regular maintenance and speedy repairs are key to reducing downtime and limiting the loss of revenue. To that end, Hotsy Water Blast offers you this short guide to identifying and resolving frequent problems with commercial pressure washers.
I. Low Water Pressure
Low water pressure on commercial pressure washers can be caused by clogged nozzles or filters, insufficient water supply, and hose issues such as kinks or leaks. Troubleshooting these issues can be fairly simple:
- check the water supply to ensure that the water source is adequate and that the hoses are free from kinks and blockages
- remove and clean clogged nozzles and replace dirty inlet filters to restore proper water flow
However, if issues persist, you may require repair services from your pressure washer dealer.
II. Leaking Water
If your commercial pressure washer is leaking, you may have worn seals or gaskets, loose fittings, or cracked hoses. Inspect your fittings and hoses. Tighten whatever is loose and replace anything that is damaged. Look for wear on the seals and gasket and replace any that are leaking.
III. Pump Issues
A commercial pressure washer can have issues with the pump when the water supply is low or there is air in the pump. Troubleshoot the first by verifying if the water supply is constant and sufficient. To remove air from the pump, run water through it to remove air pockets. If you have worn-out pump components, you may need professional repair or servicing to replace parts or the entire pump.
IV. Engine Problems
If the engine of your commercial pressure washer is not running as easily or efficiently as usual, any number of things could be the cause, including:
- contaminated fuel
- problems with the electrical supply
- mechanical failures
Troubleshooting these by yourself can be tricky, but on diesel and gasoline models, you can check the fuel quality and replace it if necessary. On electric models, check that the correct voltage is being supplied to your electrical washer. If problems persist, consult your commercial pressure washer dealer for repair services.
V. Overheating
Continuous operation of any machine, including your commercial pressure washer, can lead to overheating. Implement break times to allow the machine an opportunity to cool down. If overuse is not the problem, verify the water supply. It must be consistent and adequate to keep the pressure washer running without overheating.
If Troubleshooting Fails
Sometimes even the most mechanically inclined pressure washer operators and owners are unable to troubleshoot problems with their unit. In these cases, it is best to call upon the manufacturer’s service crew. At Hotsy Water Blast, we offer service calls in Alberta, its neighbouring provinces, and the American state of North Dakota.
