How to use an electric pressure washer

Whether sprucing up your patio, washing your car or tackling tough stains, an electric pressure washer is a versatile tool that can make the job easier. Although electric and gasoline-powered pressure washers are similar, some differences demand your attention. Follow these steps to make the most of your electric pressure washer system and tackle various cleaning tasks effectively.

Gasoline vs. electric pressure washers

Firstly, it’s essential to understand the key differences between gas-powered and electric pressure washers. Gasoline models are typically more powerful and suitable for heavy-duty industrial or commercial use. They’re also portable and excellent for remote work. However, they’re also louder, emit fumes and require more maintenance.

On the other hand, electric pressure washers are quieter, more compact and environmentally friendly. They’re ideal for residential use, offering sufficient power for most cleaning tasks around the home without the hassle of gasoline engines.

Benefits of electric pressure washers

Electric pressure washers come with several benefits:

  • Easy to use. Electric models are lighter and easier to manoeuvre than gasoline models.
  • They can be started by pushing a button, eliminating the need for pull cords or priming.
  • Low maintenance. Electric pressure washers require minimal maintenance compared to their gasoline counterparts, as there’s no need for oil changes or fuel stabilization.
  • Environmentally friendly. Electric pressure washers are more eco-friendly since they don’t emit harmful fumes, making them suitable for enclosed spaces.

Using an electric pressure washer system

Here’s a step-by-step guide on how to use an electric pressure washer:

  1. Inspect the washer. Check the pressure washer parts and accessories for damage or wear, including the pressure washer hose, wand and nozzles.
  2. Connect to the water source. Attach one end of the water supply hose to the unit and the other end to the water source. Turn on the water before turning on the electric pressure washer.
  3. Connect any accessories. Attach the pressure washer hose to the unit and connect the hose to the wand. Choose a suitable nozzle and attach it to the wand. Fill the reservoir with detergent if needed.
  4. Turn on the power. Plug the electric pressure washer into a suitable power outlet and switch it on.
  5. Start cleaning. Squeeze the trigger on the wand to start the flow of water. Begin cleaning from a safe distance and gradually move closer to the surface as needed.
  6. Rinse and repeat. Once the cleaning is complete, switch off the pressure washer and disconnect the hose. Rinse off any detergent residue if necessary.
  7. Store properly. After use, store the electric pressure washer and accessories in a dry, secure location away from extreme temperatures.
