Livestock and pressure washing

Livestock

Pressure washers have many applications in agriculture. Livestock operations, in particular, can use them to help keep animals, employees and the public safe. Here’s how pressure washers help livestock farmers.

Pressure washers keep animals healthy

Whether you raise cows, chickens, turkeys or pigs, barn sanitation is of the utmost importance. A lack of adequate cleaning and disinfecting can lead to disease outbreaks among the animals, spread pathogens to people and contaminate the food chain.

Pressure washers sanitize the workplace

Using an electric pressure washer is an efficient way to sanitize pens. Pork producers benefit the most from pressure washers when weaning. Pigs give birth and suckle their young in steel or concrete farrowing crates. The sow and piglets will live in the stalls for about three weeks. After this time, the pens are a mess and typically filled with manure.

A hot water pressure washer with at least 3,000 psi will clean and disinfect the nastiest maternity crates. Biodegradable and non-toxic detergents such as Vital Oxide kill 99.999 per cent of bacteria, viruses, fungi and completely eliminate noroviruses. Pressure washer attachments allow you to feed detergents directly through the hose.

Pressure washers improve efficiency

Livestock operators need to ensure that the trucks they use to transport animals are also regularly cleaned and disinfected before and after each trip. Consequently, a wash bay is a good investment for mass production facilities. A custom installation will allow you to wash multiple trucks at once and improve your operation’s overall efficiency. Wash bays can also be installed with water recycling systems to reduce costs and waste.

Pressure washers prolong the life of assets

In addition to cleaning pens, trucks and equipment, pressure washers can be used by livestock operators to clean the exteriors of offices, barns, fences and sheds. Keeping these structures clean reduces rot, improves their appearance and prolongs their lifespan.

Gasoline-powered pressure washers are well-suited for livestock farms because they allow operators to clean remote worksites outdoors where electrical outlets are typically unavailable. With a gas pressure washer, you can quickly clean the exterior of a building or fence without worrying about needing to run out a cord.
