6 signs your pressure washer needs repairs
If you’re working on a big cleaning project, the last thing you need is for your pressure washer to break down. Unfortunately, even the most durable machines will eventually need repairs. How do you know when it’s time to call a professional? Here are six signs your pressure washer needs repairs.
- There’s a water leak
Water leaking from your pressure washer while it’s idle or running indicates a broken seal or worn-out pump. Either way, you should get it fixed by a professional.
- There’s an oil leak
An oil leak means one of the seals, gaskets or pistons on your pressure washer pump may be damaged. A technician can disassemble the pump and replace the worn or damaged parts.
- The unit won’t start
If your gasoline or diesel pressure washer won’t start, it could have a bad spark plug, a clogged carburetor or a broken ignition coil. A professional pressure washer technician well-versed in small engine repair can resolve the issue.
- The motor starts and then stalls
If your pressure washer motor starts fine, but then stalls soon after, it’s probably time for a repair. The fuel cap vent may be clogged, so the machine isn’t getting enough air. Alternatively, leaving fuel in the tank too long can clog the carburetor, leading to stalls.
- There’s low or no pressure
Your pressure washer could have little to no water pressure for several reasons. For example, the unloader valve, nozzle or hose could be blocked. A technician can troubleshoot the issue to determine the cause.
- The pressure won’t stop building
If your unit won’t stop building water pressure, you could have a faulty wand trigger or a bad unloader valve. Bring your pressure washer to a repair shop to get it up and running again.
